IU Tops Hoops Coaches Poll; 5 Big Ten Teams, Notre Dame Ranked
(CBS) Indiana is back on top of the college basketball world. At least to start the season.
The Hoosiers earned the No. 1 overall ranking in the first USA TODAY coaches poll with 21 of 31 first-place votes.
"I think it'd be crazy to try to shy away from it," IU head coach Tom Crean told USA TODAY Sports. "If we were, our kids would look at us and roll their eyes. We don't talk about it much. We talk about living up to the standards that we need to live up to on a daily basis to have it that way at the end of the year.
"I think it says a lot about our fan base and how they've stuck with us."
The Big Ten has three teams in the top five, with Ohio State at No. 4 and Michigan at No. 5. Michigan State is ranked No. 14 and Wisconsin came in at No. 21. Minnesota received votes.
Notre Dame was also featured in the first poll of the season, earning a No. 23 ranking.
