It's Official: Adam Dunn Will Retire
(CBS) As expected, former White Sox slugger Adam Dunn will retire, agent Brian Peters told CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. Dunn had previously said he expected to retire.
Dunn leaves the game after 14 seasons in which he hit 462 homers, which is tied for 35th all time. He typically carried a poor batting average, finishing his career at .237, but he finishes with a .364 on-base percentage and .490 slugging percentage.
Dunn played for Chicago for 3 1/2 seasons before being dealt to Oakland at the trade deadline in 2014. He largely disappointed in Chicago after signing a four-year, $56-million deal, never hitting better than .220 with the White Sox and struggling in hitting .159 with 11 homers and 42 RBIs in 2011, his first season with the team. His best season in Chicago was 2011, when he hit 41 homers and drove in 96 runs.
Dunn played most of his career with the Reds, and he also played for the Nationals and Diamondbacks.
