It's About Time! Highs In The 80s This Weekend
CHICAGO (CBS) -- This past winter, Chicago suffered through subzero temperatures and biting wind chills, icy sidewalks, and the third worst blizzard in history.
So after months in which highs in the 30s or 40s were enough to get people excited, are you ready for highs over 80 degrees?
They're coming this weekend.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports the showers on Friday will give way to cloudy skies later in the morning, with a high of 50 degrees.
But on Saturday, skies will be partly sunny as the weather becomes comfortably warm and May-like.
Most of the Chicago area can expect temperatures in the low 70s, while downstate Illinois will see temperatures in the upper 70s. But the old adage "cooler by the lake" will apply, because the lakefront in Chicago and along the North Shore will only see the upper 60s.
But on Sunday, highs will be in the 80s no matter where you are. The entire Chicago area can expect highs in the low 80s, while the upper 80s are expected for downstate Illinois, as well as some closer places such as southern Will and Kankakee County in Illinois, and Jasper and Newton counties in Indiana.
But the trend will have its consequences. A cold front will come through Sunday evening, bringing a risk for severe thunderstorms.
When Monday comes around, the high drops back to 60 degrees.
