It Pays To Be A Blackhawks Fan This Weekend
CHICAGO (CBS) -- There's plenty for Blackhawks fans to celebrate lately. Their second Stanley Cup in four years. Patrick Kane being named the playoff MVP. A victory parade through downtown and a rally at Grant Park on Friday.
Now, Blackhawks fans are being offered all kinds of deals to celebrate their favorite team. Cheap tickets to a White Sox doubleheader, free admission to the Museum of Science and Industry, and discount rides on Metra.
As if a parade from the United Center to Grant Park for a victory rally weren't enough to make Friday extra special for Blackhawks fans, the White Sox are offering $15 tickets for their doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians to anyone wearing Blackhawks gear.
All Blackhawks fans have to do is put on their favorite team apparel, walk up to the U.S. Cellular ticket window, and they can see two games for just $15. The timing couldn't be better, either, as the doubleheader starts at 4:10 p.m., giving fans plenty of time to get from Grant Park to the Cell after the 11 a.m. victory rally.
The doubleheader will be capped off by a fireworks show at U.S. Cellular Field.
"We know there are going to be millions of people celebrating the Blackhawks in downtown Chicago on Friday," said Brooks Boyer, White Sox senior vice president of marketing and sales. "Following the rally in Grant Park, we are inviting fans to continue the celebration at U.S. Cellular Field by taking in two baseball games and one of our fireworks shows."
The team is even opening up its parking lots early on Friday, so fans can park at the stadium as early as 6 a.m., head downtown for the rally, and come back for the game. Parking at stadium lots costs $20.
On top of that, Metra is offering a special discount on Friday to help fans get to the festivities at Grant Park. Metra is selling a $5 all-day pass that allows commuters to take unlimited rides on any Metra line on Friday. The transit agency is also adding extra trains to most of its lines to help Blackhawks fans get downtown.
Due to the large crowds it's expecting, Metra is banning alcohol and bicycles from all trains on Friday.
Finally, the Museum of Science and Industry is offering a buy one, get one free admission deal on Saturday and Sunday to anyone who shows up at the museum wearing a Blackhawks logo. Tickets must be purchased on-site Saturday or Sunday.
Museum admission costs $18 for adults, $17 for seniors, and $11 for kids age 3 to 11. City residents get a discount. Special exhibits like the U-505 submarine tour, Omnimax films, the Coal Mine tour, and the Animal Inside Out exhibit require separate ticket purchases not included in general admission.
