CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Israeli consulate in downtown Chicago was evacuated Monday afternoon after a worker opened a package containing a suspicious white powder.
According to the Fire Department, emergency crews responded at 3:40 p.m. to a report of a suspicious package at 500 W. Madison St.
The Israeli consulate is located at that address. It was evacuated as a precaution as emergency crews checked out the package.
No injuries were reported and fire officials said the suspicious material had been placed in a container and emergency crews were leaving the scene as of about 5:15 p.m.
The location is also across the street from Metra's Ogilvie Transporation Center, but Metra said its trains were not being affected by the response to the suspicious package.
