Is The Best Player Ever Also The Worst Owner Ever?
(CBS) The Charlotte Bobcats could make history tonight -- and not in a good way.
If the Bobcats lose to the Knicks in Charlotte Thursday night, they'll officially have the lowest winning percentage in NBA history.
Currently 7-58 on the year, a loss tonight would leave the Bobcats with a .106 winning percentage, well below the record-low .110 winning percentage the Philadelphia 76ers set in 1972-73. The loss would also leave the Bobcats with a 23-game losing streak to end the season.
And all this futility coming from a team owned by the best basketball player ever: Michael Jordan.
Jordan not only owns the team, but also makes the personnel decisions. He stripped the team bare of its large contracts in an effort to rebuild and it has left the Bobcats with historically bad results this season. The team has lost 21 games by at least 20 points and nine games by at least 30 points.
The good news is that the Bobcats will have the best chance to win the No. 1 overall draft pick in the NBA Draft Lottery and they will also have at least $20 million in cap space to work with in the offseason.
So you can understand why Jordan is ready for next year. While his team was losing by 28 points to the lowly Washington Wizards Monday, Jordan instead took in the Blackhawks playoff game in Chicago. Tuesday, he made an appearance at the Cubs-Cardinals game at Wrigley Field.
Something tells us he'll also want to avoid watching his team possibly make history tonight.
