Is Jackson A 'Likely Trade Candidate' For White Sox?
CHICAGO (WSCR) The Chicago White Sox's "All In" approach to the 2011 season hasn't gone as planned. At 27-31, and third in the AL Central, the team will have some difficult decisions to make as the trade deadline nears.
"If it stays status quo, and still, [Phil] Humber continues to pitch like he has, and they feel pretty good about Jake Peavy, I think that's when you start looking on the trade market," Joe Cowley, of the Chicago Sun-Times, said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "Not to dump salary, but to actually move a pitcher and to try to get better somewhere else. Now obviously it's too early for teams to show their hand and to know exactly what's out there, but I definitely think if they keep pitching like they are, I think Edwin Jackson becomes a trade candidate."

Jackson has been a solid pitcher for the White Sox since coming over from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade last season.
But if the Sox are looking to move one of their starting pitchers, and get solid return, John Danks could also have his name shopped around. If Danks remains with the White Sox, it could be becuase the team wanted him, and not because his 0-8 record and his 5.25 ERA scared teams away.
"It comes down to control," Cowley said. "I mean, Edwin Jackson is a free agent after this year. It's an easy salary to trade when it's only pro-rated for half a season and then you can dump it if you're that team that wants him. He's basically a gun for hire, where John Danks, if you're the White Sox, you have control over him at least one more season through arbitration. But you don't want to move a contract like that, even though he is, I think, confidence-wise, is shot. Hard luck has turned into lack of confidence for him. So I think Edwin Jackson is the likely trade candidate. Plus, you look at age too, I don't think you want to give up on John Danks at this point."
