IRS Agent Links William Beavers' Campaign Spending To Gambling Sprees
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An IRS agent indicates he gave Commissioner Bill Beavers every possible break in figuring his tax liabilities, reports WBBM's John Cody.
IRS agent Paul Ponzo showed jurors dozens of checks Beavers wrote to himself on his campaign fund accounts, while he was playing the slots at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond.
Agent Ponzo He also discussed the stub of check 344, $2,000 written by Beavers on his campaign fund and cashed but on the check stub, the record was written VOID.

Agent Ponzo said such a check record made it difficult for him to determine what happened with the cash, though there was no public direct accusation by feds that Beavers wrote void on the checks to hide the transaction.
The prosecution rested its case Tuesday and the defense will take over Wednesday morning.
