iPhone Turns 5 Years Old
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Life without the iPhone these days might seem as remote as life with car phones, 5 1/4-inch diskettes, and "Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego?" for the Apple IIe.
But as of Friday, it has been only five years since the iPhone debuted and life as a lot of people know it changed for good.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, these days, we may take for granted the sophisticated computer that fits in our pockets. But the first iPhone wasn't what many people are used to now, with zillions of apps and fast Internet connections.
Brian Cooley is editor-at-large of CNET, and his description of the first-generation iPhone makes it sound like an antique.
"It had a very slow Internet connection. It was missing the 3G that we take for granted now. It couldn't even copy and paste text," Cooley said.
Now, of course, the expression, "There's an app for that," applies to virtually everything under the sun – be it playing the latest game, connecting to social networking sites, or reporting power outages.
And of course, we ask Siri silly questions and get serious answers on the iPhone 4S.
