iPhone App Leads Police To Armed Robbery Suspects
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Trying to nab a pair of armed robbers? There's an app for that.
Chicago Police charged two men with a pair of robberies that happened within minutes of each other early Thursday morning in Ukrainian Village by using a popular application to track a stolen iPhone.
The first incident occurred about 1 a.m. in the 2300 block of West Iowa Street, where a 34-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were robbed at gunpoint as they walked home. Two men approached on foot and stole a purse, cell phones and cash, according to police.
About 15 minutes later in the 2100 block of West Iowa Street, the same suspects robbed three men -- 30, 33, and 38 -- as they got into their car, taking wallets, cash and cell phones.
Wood District Officers tracked one of the stolen iPhones by using the "Find My iPhone" application, which led them to a gas station in the 4200 block of West Chicago.
When officers went inside, they saw two men duck down between the aisles trying to hide, but they were detained and a search of the aisle revealed they'd stashed the stolen iPhones among bags of potato chips.
Terrance Conway, 25, of the 3000 block of West Walnut Street; and Tiquell Harris, 22, of the 100 block of East Lake Street in Elmhurst were identified by victims in police lineups and charged with five felony counts each of armed robbery, according to police.
They were scheduled to appear in bond court Friday.
