Iowa Man Killed In Crash On I-80
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An Iowa man died after his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic on Interstate 80 Monday afternoon in southwest suburban Joliet, police said.
David R. Zenteno, 31, was driving a 2002 white Chevrolet westbound on I-80 just west of Briggs Street, when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center median into eastbound traffic, according to Illinois State Police.
The Chevrolet struck a 2006 silver Volkswagen and a 2011 black Dodge Durango, then rolled over, police said.
Zenteno, of Des Moines, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:30 p.m., according to the Will County coroner's office. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday and the final cause of death will be determined pending police, autopsy and toxicology reports.
The drivers of the Volkswagen and the Dodge were both taken to hospitals with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, police said.
It was not known Monday night what caused Zenteno's vehicle to cross the lanes, which were closed for three hours, police said.
