Investigators: Hackers Didn't Cause Springfield Water Pump Failure
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- A federal probe finds no evidence that foreign hackers infiltrated computers controlling a downstate water plant.
As CBS News Correspondent Jim Chenevey reports, federal investigators have been looking into the alleged foreign hacker attack at the Curran-Gardner Township Public Water District treatment facility in Springfield earlier this month.

Investigators have concluded that there was no break-in after all.
A report from the Illinois Statewide Terrorism and Intelligence Center that was leaked for the media blamed Russian computer hackers for breaking into the control system at the plant and causing a pump to fail.
But investigators for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the FBI say an examination of computer logs shows no evidence of the break-in, and the pump burned out simply as a result of normal wear-and-tear.
Don Craven, a trustee for the water district, has said the water pump burned out earlier this month and that the water district has multiple pumps. He said there was never a break in service to its 2,200 rural customers.
