Investigation Results For ND Student Death To Be Announced
During the fall, a student filming Notre Dame's football practice had passed away after high winds knocked over the hydraulic lift blew over. The investigation is finally over and the results are to be announced early next week.
The state will announce next week the results of its four-month investigation into the death of a Notre Dame student who died when a hydraulic lift he was atop toppled over while he was filming football practice in October.
The results of the Indiana Occupational Health and Safety Administration will be announced Tuesday at the Indiana Statehouse by Department of Labor Commissioner Lori Torres. Declan Sullivan, 20, of Long Grove, Ill., died on Oct. 27 when the lift fell. The National Weather Service reported gusts of up to 51 mph at the time.
State officials have said they were looking at whether federal and state workplace safety rules and industry standards might have been violated, including a federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration rule barring workers from using scaffolds during storms or high winds. The school this week announced it would no longer use the lifts and was adding remote-controlled cameras to film the practices.
