International IT Firm Bringing 200 Jobs To Chicago

CHICAGO (WBBM/CBS) -- On his official 100th day in office on Tuesday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel was applauding an information technology firm for bringing 200 more jobs to the city of Chicago.

WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports that EMC Corp., a global data recovery, cloud computing and information technology company, will open a Chicago office by the end of the first quarter of 2012.

Chairman and CEO Joe Tucci said the international firm's first Chicago office was thanks to Emanuel himself.

"We received no stimulus to be here. We're here because Chicago's doing the right things," Tucci said.

But EMC is working closely with DePaul University, which Emanuel said was a big draw.

"I argue the kids out of DePaul is a stimulus, because we have trained workers who are excelling in the technology."

And Tucci said the young people who will work for his firm want to live in Chicago.

Emanuel said that, since he's been in office, he's helped bring 4,200 jobs to the city.

"For EMC this is a whole new effort. They used to be and still will have their office in the suburbs. This will be the first time they had an operation here," Emanuel said.

In addition to the new Chicago office, EMC also has an office in Lisle.

The 200 jobs at EMC's new Chicago office will include sales and customer support roles, as well as some administrative personnel, according to a news release from the mayor's office.
