Intermission Speeches Lead To Blackhawks Victory
Saturday night, the Chicago Blackhawks lost a two goal lead in the third period and would eventually lose to the Nashville Predators in a shootout.
So when the two teams squared off in Chicago the very next night, the Blackhawks were looking to quickly lose the bitter taste of defeat.
Going into the second intermission tied at two, the Blackhawks found the extra motivation and drive to win the third period from the leaders inside their dressing room.
"What happened [Saturday] night," Blackhawks forward Troy Brouwer said, "we didn't want to let it happen again. And so when we came in, a couple guys had some words for the team."
Ever since the Blackhawks beat the Ottawa Senators in a shootout, they've been playing at a higher level and have been looking more and more like the team they were last year.
While the Blackhawks may have lost a lot of talent from last season, Sunday's win shows that they still have plenty of talent and leadership to win games when they need to.
"Those guys are guys that we need to listen to, and who are a big part in this team," Brouwer said of the players who spoke up before the third period. "And when they're talking you need to make sure that you're listening. And guys took it upon themselves to be better. And you could see it with how much more we were moving our feet and how much harder we were working in the third period."
All that hard work definitely paid off for the Blackhawks. In the third period, the team went out and scored three goals, including two from Brouwer in a span of 40 seconds, to secure at 6-3 victory.
With a week off, the Blackhawks should have a better idea of where they sit in the standings. By the time the Blackhawks take the ice against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, the rest of the league should have finally played the same amount of games as the Blackhawks.
