Interactive Maps Help Illinois Voters Find Their Districts

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM) -- Illinois voters can decipher the new maps of Illinois congressional and state legislative and senate districts, thanks to satellite technology.

The Illinois State Board of Elections has released its interactive maps, which allow users to get down to street level and determine through overlays the districts in which they reside.

State Board of Elections executive director Rupert Borgsmiller says the maps are high quality and can get very specific.

"An individual can go to their house if they want to, they can take it down to that level and see their house as far as what district they would be in," he says.

Several lawsuits are currently filed against the maps, alleging unfairness toward Republicans and minorities. Borgsmiller says that's not a big deal.

"These are maps that were signed and approved by the governor; they are the maps right now," he says. "Now if the lawsuits are successful, if one map is bad, obviously that map will come down."

The maps show congressional districts as well as Illinois State Senate and House districts. Borgsmiller says users can select only which districts they want to view, so that it's not confusing.

The maps are available through the state board of elections website.
