Injury Update: Bennett, Melton Still Recovering From Concussions

By Adam Hoge-

HALAS HALL (CBS) As the Bears made their return to newly renovated Halas Hall Monday, two key players were still sitting out the limited portion of practice that was open to the media and two others were nowhere to be seen.

Earl Bennett and Henry Melton, who are both recovering from concussions, were not present on the practice field during individual drills Monday. Bennett has not been seen since suffering his injury Aug. 3. It was his second concussion since December. Melton suffered his against the Panthers Aug. 9.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Scott was present at Halas Hall Monday, but was not wearing pads or participating in individual drills. He had his sore right knee drained last week and head coach Marc Trestman expressed optimism about the offensive tackle returning this week, but it appears that optimism has been tabled to start the week.

The same can be said for middle linebacker D.J. Williams, who has not practiced since suffering a calf injury July 31.

Defensive tackle Corvey Irvin, who suffered an ankle injury in Thursday's preseason win over the Chargers, also appeared to be sitting out practice.

Quarterback Matt Blanchard was wearing a splint on his left hand after fracturing a knuckle on his left hand Thursday. He's expected to miss a significant amount of time.

Other players who appeared to sit out Monday's practice include: defensive end Cheta Ozougwu (hamstring), running back Harvey Unga (ribs) and long snapper Patrick Mannelly (ribs).

Check back for updates as Trestman will talk to the media following the Bears' 1:30 practice.
