Indiana Trooper Hurt In Hit-And-Run

PORTAGE, Ind. (WBBM/CBS) -- An Indiana State Trooper was injured in a hit-and-run accident Monday night along the Indiana Toll Road.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, Trooper George Hornsby, 30, was hit by a car he had been trying to stop because it had been reported in another hit-and-run.

Both accidents happened around 6:30 p.m. Monday on the Indiana Toll Road.
Police say the 2003 Toyota Camry had been reported stolen in Gary, Ind., last Friday. A male driver and a female passenger were spotted in the car Monday night when it hit Trooper Hornsby. It was found late Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area just north of the Toll Road in Portage.
The trooper will need leg surgery.
Indiana State Police say Hornsby had been preparing to toss stop sticks in front of the Camry at the Portage exit, when the car swerved and hit the trooper, then kept going.
The trooper was taken to North Lake Hospital in Gary, Ind., where he underwent surgery late Monday on his leg, according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Ann Wojas. Hornsby will undergo more surgery Tuesday afternoon.
The car, with Indiana "In God We Trust" license plate numbers JF 1575, was reported stolen to the Gary Police Department Jan. 7.
