Indiana State Trooper Revives 2-Year-Old Girl On I-80
LAKE STATION, Ind. (CBS) -- An Indiana State Trooper is being credited with saving the life of a 2-year-old girl Monday afternoon.
WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports Senior Trooper Danny Avitia was about two miles away when a call came in about a mother whose 2-year-old girl was having a medical emergency.
The mother had pulled over to the side of Interstate 80 near Lake Station after noticing her daughter was unresponsive in her car seat.

Avitia responded and saw Jennifer Newsum trying to get her daughter, Addison, out of the child seat. The toddler was limp and she wasn't breathing.
"I performed CPR. After several attempts, I observed that her lips were getting kind of blue, so I knew that she wasn't getting any kind of air," he said. "After performing CPR, we got her to breathe again."
Newsum was holding together pretty well, Avitia said.
"She had it together," he said. "Actually, mom helped me talk on the radio, because I had my hands full."
Addison had been ill, and had a high fever, and suffered a seizure. She was being treated at Saint Mary's Medical Center in Hobart, where State Police delivered some teddy bears.
"I was probably at the right place at the right time, and I got a lot of luck," Avitia said.
The 14-year veteran trooper said it was all in a day's work, and he said it's always a pleasure to serve.
