Indiana Elects GOP Governor, Dem Senator; Ryan Keeps Seat In Wisconsin
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois' neighbors to the north and east went in different directions in the presidential race.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, Indiana went for Romney while the battleground state of Wisconsin fell into President Obama's camp.
Hoosiers also have another Republican as governor. Mike Pence won the battle to succeed retiring governor Mitch Daniels.
In Indiana's Senate race, the seat long held by Republican Richard Lugar is going to a Democrat.
Joe Donnelly beat tea party candidate Richard Mourdock, who'd beat Lugar in the primary.
Mourdock sank his campaign with a comment that when rape victims become pregnant it's God's will. He had no regrets.
"I was attacked for standing for my principles," he said.
In Wisconsin, Democrat Tammy Baldwin made history, becoming the first openly gay candidate to win a US Senate seat, by beating 70-year-old former governor Tommy Thompson.
While Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan lost for vice president, he was re-elected to his seat in Congress.
