In Wake Of Sandy, Red Cross Seeks Blood Donors From Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- On this Halloween, the Red Cross wants your blood.
Another 10 volunteers from the Red Cross in Chicago are heading out to help with relief efforts after the disaster on the East Coast this week.
The volunteers already there have set up shelters for those left homeless by Hurricane Sandy--some 11,000 as of Monday night.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, the organization's Martha Carlos here in Chicago says the needs are enormous.
But one thing needed immediately are blood donations.
"As a result of this storm, there were nearly 300 blood drives that were canceled," Carlos said. "The Red Cross has a constant need to keep the blood supply replenished. We supply nearly half the nation's blood supply."
As for relief donations, the Red Cross wants only money, not clothing, food or other supplies.
