In Bridgeport, A Spa Night For Bereaved Moms
(CBS) -- Everyone handles the grief of losing a child in their own way.
As CBS 2's Dana Kozlov explains, one woman chose to push away her sadness by uniting with other women with similar stories to share.
Bridgeport's Salon Olori was a sanctuary Friday night for women who have lost a child.
You could say Destiny brought them together.
"I just hope that I can give them a moment of clarity, peace, just a bit of happiness," says organizer Destiny Gonzalez.
The women, including Destiny, lost a child in infancy. Destiny's son, Kaiden, died at 6 months from SIDS. He would have been 2.
Destiny, who constantly remembers the tragedy, used social media to reach out to other moms like her for a special night.
More than 100 responded. Twelve were picked, including Debbie Burke, whose daughter, Alissa, died of cancer at age 6.
"We all suffer in a different way but yet in the same way," Burke says. "She's inspired me to do something for other people as well."
Kaiden's Day: Mom's Night Out was born.
Sandra Bland and Amari Brown's mothers were part of the evening. All of the services were donated by the Salon.
Destiny Gonzalez hopes to make this an annual event.
