Illinois Tollway To Go After Scofflaws
CHICAGO (CBS) -- If you haven't paid your tolls in Illinois, expect to hear from the Tollway soon.
As WBBM Newsradio's Brandis Friedman reports, the Illinois Tollway says it is planning to take toll violators to court over a total of $300 million in unpaid tolls and initial fines.
Officials say until now, violators until now have received at least five notices, four phone calls, and multiple opportunities to enter a payment plan – a process that can take between nine months and two years.
Many of the scofflaws are commercial drivers, part of company fleets that travel the tollway for business purposes.
In addition to core proceedings, the agency plans to work with Illinois State Police to identify vehicles with suspended license plates.
