Illinois Lawmakers Plan Veto Overrides Before Session Ends
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois lawmakers have three more days to attempt to overturn vetoes by Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner before their brief fall session concludes.
One of the vetoes they're expected to consider this week would allow visitors to a handful of state agencies to be automatically registered to vote unless they opt out. The Senate voted earlier this month to overturn the veto and now it's up to the House to decide whether to override the governor.
Lawmakers will be in Springfield from Tuesday through Thursday.
Legislative leaders are also using their time at the Capitol to meet with Rauner to try to negotiate an end to an historic budget stalemate. However, Democratic and Republican leaders appear to be making no progress.
They met Monday and are will meet again Tuesday.
