Gov. Quinn Proclaims 'Lilly Ledbetter Day'
CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn is paying tribute to Lilly Ledbetter for her efforts to gain equal pay for women.
At a ceremony in downtown Chicago, Quinn proclaimed Thursday Lilly Ledbetter Day in Illinois.
Ledbetter was a worker at a Good Year Tire and Rubber plant in Alabama when she learned she was making less money than her male coworkers. The lawsuit she filed over the issue was unsuccessful.
But her efforts led Congress to pass the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which President Barack Obama signed into law last year.
Quinn calls Ledbetter a living legend. She joined Quinn, Attorney General Lisa Madigan and other officials at Thursday's event.
