Illinois Giving Away Free Tickets For Home Finale
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Illinois has offered students more than 4,000 free tickets for its final home game Wednesday against Nebraska.
With a 9 p.m. start, the Illini faced a potentially small crowd as the team pushes to make the NCAA Tournament field. However, sports information director Kent Brown said Tuesday that fewer than 70 of the free tickets remained.
With the Nebraska game and a game at Purdue left before the Big Ten tournament, the Illini (18-11, 8-8 Big Ten) probably need at least two more wins to make the NCAA field.
Illinois coach John Groce called the ticket giveaway a chance to repay student fans for backing the team.
The State Farm Center seats 17,085.
The 9 p.m. game is part of a Big Ten Network tripleheader Wednesday.
