Illinois EPA issues grants to counties, municipalities for energy efficiency improvements
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is giving out $285,400 to make cities and counties more energy efficient.
The grants are going to rural Crawford County downstate, which will receive $108,000; the City of Rochelle in Ogle County south of Rockford, which will receive $150,000; and the Village of Riverside in Chicago's west suburbs, which will receive $27,400.
So far, the Illinois EPA has awarded $1,837,082 to 14 municipalities and counties.
These grants were the third round of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program. The program supports municipalities and counties with the development or revision of strategic energy or climate action plans, and supplemental energy efficiency audits and public building upgrades.
A fourth and likely final round is coming soon.
