Illinois COVID Numbers Moving Back Up With More Than 6,000 Cases
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Despite a low number of COVID cases reported on Monday, the lowest since October, numbers are back trending upward in Illinois.
On Tuesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 6,239 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease, including 116 additional deaths.
On Monday, public health officials reported 4,699 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Illinois. That was the lowest daily case count since late October, as the state's average infection rate also continued to decline. The Illinois Department of Public Health hadn't reported fewer than 6,000 new cases of coronavirus since Oct. 27, when the state reported 4,000 new cases.
Part of that low number could be attributed to a smaller number of testing opportunities taking place in the state over the weekend.
As of Tuesday, the state's health department reports close to a million COVID cases (911,308) including 15,414 deaths. As of Monday evening, 4,571 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Out of that number, 981 patients were in the ICU and 557 were on ventilators.
