Illinois-Chicago Holds On To Beat Detroit 63-59
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gary Talton scored a career-high 21 points, including all eight of his team's points during a seven-minute stretch of the second half, to lead Illinois-Chicago to a 63-59 victory Thursday over Detroit.
Talton hit five free throws and a 3-pointer to help the Flames (5-8, 1-2 Horizon) keep pace and ultimately take a 60-57 lead with 3:12 remaining. Daniel Barnes, who had 13 points, added a free throw before the Titans (6-9, 0-3) cut it to 61-59 on a Doug Anderson dunk with 49 seconds left.
Detroit had a chance to tie when Talton fouled Jason Calliste with three seconds left, but Calliste missed the front end of a one-and-one. Barnes got the rebound and hit two free throws to seal the win.
The Titans came into the game shooting a Horizon-leading 73 percent from the free-throw line.
Chase Simon led Detroit with 14 points, and Eli Holman scored 12.
