'If You Can't Run The Ball...You're Going To Struggle'
Coming out of the bye week there is a hope that the Bears have addressed the issues that have been plaguing them through the first seven games. While they may have improved their execution of the offense, it doesn't appear as if we will see drastic changes in the plays.
"You don't want to over-think things," Jay Cutler said when addressing the media today. Cutler spoke about the team's perspective and mindset during a bye week. "We talk about a lot of things. We go back to some of the basics. we look at stuff in practice. But, at the end of the day, you can't completely re-do what you're doing offensively or defensively. We've got to stick with what we believe in, what we're good at and just go forward."
The bye week should have improved the execution of the offense. With more time to solely focus on themselves, and not prepare for an opponent, the Bears should have been able to tighten up some of the issues like they said they needed to. Because when it comes down to it, this is an offense that needs all of the players on the field to understand and execute their role.
"This offense, maybe more so than others, is going to take all eleven guys on the same page doing what they're supposed to do," Cutler said.
It's been no secret that the offense has struggled so far this season. While you can't expect the Bears to completely abandon what they've been doing on offense, they are aware that they need to focus more on running the football.
"You look at the past in the NFL," Cutler said. "If you can't run the ball, especially down the stretch, you're going to struggle. Because defenses get better and better throughout the season, of watching film and learning what you're going to do. Mike [Martz] is aware of that. The running backs are aware of that. The offensive line is aware of that. So we just gotta get it done."
