Hurd Pleads Not Guilty To New Charges
DALLAS (AP) — Former NFL receiver Sam Hurd has pleaded not guilty to a new indictment in the drug case that derailed his career.
Hurd entered the plea in federal court in Dallas on Wednesday. He faces new charges of possessing marijuana and cocaine while he was out on bond from his previous arrest.
After Hurd's first arrest in December, authorities accused the former Chicago Bears player of trying to set up large-scale purchases of drugs that he planned to distribute in the Chicago area.
A guilty plea signed by Hurd showed up in court documents from a previous indictment last month, but attorney Jay Ethington said it was filed in error.
Ethington said he didn't know if there were new discussions toward a guilty plea.
Hurd's career started with the Dallas Cowboys.
