WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports Rev. Jose Landaverde, of Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission, led about 300 people along the march. He offered an explanation of why he picked Monday for the demonstration.
"This is the day of the civil rights, Dr. Martin Luther King, and also the inauguration," he said. "The president, Barack Obama, is violating the human rights of 11 millions of human beings. And today, Dr. Martin Luther King would be very sad if he is seeing what Obama is doing to our communities."
Landeverde called for a moratorium on deportations of undocumented immigrants.
Demonstrators carried signs reading, "Stop Separations Of Families," and "We Are Not Aliens."
Others used megaphones, drums and vuvuzelas to make noise during the march through downtown during the president's inauguration ceremony in Washington.
