Hundreds Come To South Side Church For Free Thanksgiving Groceries
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hundreds of people came to a Roman Catholic Church on Chicago's South Side Wednesday to get free groceries for Thanksgiving meals.
As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, people started lining up overnight at St. Columbanus Church, at 71st Street and Calumet Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood. They were hungry and grateful for the food.

"It means a lot to me, yes Lord!" one woman said, adding that without the donation, "we'd be starving, that's what."
LaVerne Morris directs the food pantry at St. Columbanus. She says the church will serve over 500 people.
"That the economy is in the toilet is what it actually tells me," Morris said. "This is a neighborhood of the working class, and when the economy fell apart, it sent them even lower than they already were."
This is not just for Thanksgiving. The church serves as many as 500 people every week.
"It's wonderful," said the woman who received the food. "I love it."
