Hundreds Beat The Heat At The Crowne Fountain

CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The sounds of cool water and children squealing are a sure sign of summer at the Crowne Fountain at Millennium Park.

The fountain, which anchors the southwest corner of Millennium Park at Michigan Avenue and Monroe Streets, is a favorite of both children and families. WBBM's Lisa Fielding was there.

While the kids got wet, most of the parents watched from a spot in the shade.

"Why are you here today? I'm here to chill out my son," said Nicole Cordova. "I stay on the sidelines."

Helen Pantazus brought her 3-year old daughter to cool off.

"This is her first time. At first she was apprehensive, she's diving right in. Doesn't take long on a day like this."

10-year old Katie Barnett says playing in the face fountain is one of her favorite things about summer.

"It's just fun because the water comes down dripping down on you and it's cold."

And With temperatures reaching near record levels already, Crown Fountain will likely be a busy place in the months ahead.

"They love it, love it, love it," said parent Hermise Eskridge.

The water is on from mid-spring through mid-fall each year.
