Humber Put On Disabled List; Fukudome Designated For Assignment
(CBS) The White Sox shook up their roster Friday with two significant moves.
Right-handed pitcher Philip Humber was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow flexor strain and outfielder Kosuke Fukudome was designated for assignment.
To replace Humber on the major league roster, the White Sox purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Brian Bruney from Triple-A Charlotte. Bruney, 30, is 1-3 with a 1.85 ERA in 34 innings pitched with the Knights this season. He has pitched in 23 games, three of which were starts. Bruney made 23 relief appearances with the White Sox last season and posted a 6.86 ERA.
Humber has been struggling since pitching a perfect game in April. He is just 3-4 with a 6.01 ERA in 12 starts this season. It's possible Dylan Axelrod, who was called up from Charlotte Tuesday, will take Humber's spot in the rotation.
Fukudome has been on the disabled list since June 7 after straining an oblique June 3 against the Seattle Mariners. He had been on an injury rehabilitation assignment in Charlotte. With this move, the White Sox have 10 days to trade, release or outright the outfielder to the minors.
