How We Got Here: iPhone Videos Chronicle Our Everyday Lives
By John Dodge
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Each year is a journey, sometimes memorable, often mundane.
Seasons wax and wane; we adapt; we adjust.
By July, we wish the year would slow down.
And we mostly forget.
Using a series of short, smartly edited and shot, documentary-like clips a film-maker named Joyland has set out to explore, "How We Got Here." (You'll notice that July's clip starts with cars removing in reverse.)
Joyland has posted eight of the 12-part series spanning the entirety of 2014
"What events, both big and small, led us to this moment?" Joyland writes on a Vimeo page.
"Telling the story of an average month in just 3 seconds a day (shot entirely on a standard iPhone 5S), "How We Got Here" is an attempt to find a unique daily moment, regardless of scale, to put together a unified story of just how a life leads up to its present state."
Unlike most documentaries, the videos have no narration, just seasonally appropriate musical tracks and natural sound.
