Indiana wasn't spared from the fresh wave of snow
One of the areas that saw a significant amount of snow Thursday was northwestern Indiana, where some areas saw more than 3 inches of snow.
The heavy wind and slippery conditions led to several accidents. As bad a day as it was for many commuters, those who have to work outside had it even worse.
In Portage, Indiana, people could be seen bundled themselves up as well as their dogs. One resident, Linda Lemond, says she's lived in the area for 40 years, and thought this year's first snow wasn't too bad, as they go.
"Well it is pretty, I can say that, it is pretty. And I have wonderful neighbors who help with the shoveling, so I have to be grateful for that," Lemond said.
Those homeowners who had to work to clean up had a different take. Robert Gallardo has been shoveling the same driveway for 30 years, and time hasn't taken the edge off when it comes to fresh snow.
"I hate the cold weather, I hate the snow, but it's got to be cleaned up," he said.
When CBS Chicago wrapped its interview with Gallardo, he attempted to hand reporter Asal Rezaei his shovel.
Next week could bring colder-than-average snap to Chicago
Brisk northwest winds continue under cloudy skies tonight and Friday, dropping wind chills into the 20s and 30s.
A few breaks of sun return this weekend with milder temperatures near 50 for the Bears game Sunday.
Next week, the CBS News Chicago First Alert Weather team is tracking an extended period of colder-than-normal weather that appears to begin Tuesday and carry us through Thanksgiving weekend. Another round of snow will be possible on Thanksgiving.
