Homeless Man Charged With Armed Robbery
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STMW) -- Ten days after a suspect rode up on a bicycle, showed a gun and robbed a man of his cellphone in Waukegan, police were able to identify him and arrest him.
Sharrece Randle, 32, who is homeless, is being held on $500,000 bond after being charged June 21 with armed robbery after admitting to his role in the incident.
Police said the victim told police that on June 11 around 4 p.m. he was walking northbound on Elmwood Avenue at 14th Street when Randle allegedly rode up on a bicycle and claimed the victim had robbed his cousin.
The victim told the man he was mistaken and he didn't know what he was talking about.
At that point, Randle allegedly lifted up his shirt and the victim could see a silver-colored handgun in his waistband. The victim told his female friend to begin walking away.
The suspect pulled out the gun and pointed it at him, but the victim said he did not have any money so the suspect demanded his cellphone.
The victim handed it over and the suspect rode away on the bicycle.
The victim described the suspect as in his 30s with teardrop tattoos under both of his eyes.
A description was forwarded to all Waukegan police officers and one officer recognized the description and was able to come up with a name to give to the investigations division.
Police picked Randle up a short time later.
