Homeless Man Arrested, Can't Sleep In Jail
ELGIN, Ill. (STMW) -- Police said a homeless man who was arrested after refusing to leave the northwest suburban Elgin police station's lobby Monday told them he wanted to sleep in the building's jail.
But he didn't get his wish. Officers said they previously banned Rex Sommers, 54, from hanging out in the lobby because he had been seen drinking there and that he seemed to be drunk on Monday when he refused three orders to leave.
Sommers was charged with criminal trespass but then was released with a notice to appear in court on Feb. 22 — and was escorted out of the building, officers reported.
