Holmes' Morning After Blog: Thursday Edition
By Laurence W. Holmes--
CHICAGO (WSCR) There are two guys that I give a hard time to: Jake Peavy and A.J. Pierzynski. It's not without merit, but I have to give them props for their performances Wednesday night. Peavy was pretty good after a very long lay off. He wasn't perfect and his motion looks as violent as ever, but he was effective and gave the Sox a chance to win. Pierzynski had a great night at the plate. He went 4-for-6 overall, but his at-bat in the 9th inning was pivotal. He fought off some tough two-strike pitches and ended up with a big hit, extending the inning and the Sox eventually tied and won the game.
-Don't look now, but "Big Donkey" is heating up. Adam Dunn is hitting .476 in his last five games with an on-base percentage of .520. His homer last night was a moon shot. It's not a coincidence that as he heats up the Sox have won two series in a row.
-Better play: Mark Buehrle through the legs or Konerko to Thornton behind the back?
-How cool were some of the pictures from Wrigley last night? During the rain delay, Comcast kept their cameras over the scoreboard running and captured some awesome lightning strikes.
-It bugged me that the Miami Heat celebrated like they had won the NBA Championship last night. Yeah, they slayed the dragon that is the Celtics, but you still need eight more wins to take Larry O'Brien home. Never has the cliché "act like you've been there" seemed more appropriate. Hope the Bulls were watching that…
