Holmes' Morning After Blog: The Chicago Baseball Season By The Numbers

By Laurence W. Holmes--

(WSCR) Here's a look at Chicago's 2011 baseball season by the numbers, on both sides of town.

0.92: The RBI rate per game for Paul Konerko over his last 26 games. Almost an RBI a game for the last month. Pretty impressive.

2: Where Starlin Castro ranks in all of MLB in hits since last year's All-Star Break.

2.25: That's Carlos Marmol's WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) in his last 4 appearances. It's a small sample size, but Marmol is getting hit at a higher rate than usual and his walks are staying the same.

3: The amount of weeks until the Bears would start reporting to Bourbonnais. I'm starting to worry about that.

10:59: Time tonight when All-Star voting ends if you want to try and help your favorite Cub or White Sox to Arizona.

11: Number of starts in a row where Mark Buehrle has allowed three runs or fewer. In that stretch Buehrle's ERA is 2.98. You can make the argument that Buehrle has really benefited from the 6-man rotation.

16: Strikeouts for Adam Dunn in his last 7 games. Expect him in the lineup today against Aaron Cook.

17: Carlos Pena's HR total. He didn't hit any homers in April. The last guy to hit this many homers before July, without hitting any in April was Juan Gonzalez back in 1997.

20: The consecutive games without Juan Pierre stealing a base.

21: That's how many days it was since both the White Sox and Cubs won on the same day. You have to go back to June 9th, a 4-3 Cubs win over Philly and 9-4 Sox win over Oakland. Both were anchored by outstanding starting pitching.

110: That's how many days the NFL has been in a "Lockout."

.383: Kosuke Fukudome's OBP this season. He's been slumping lately, but overall, very quietly, he has had a solid year.

1,000,000: Dollars that Bourbonnais Mayor Paul Schore says his city will lose if there is no training camp.

2,000,000: Dollars that business owners in Kankakee County have told me could be lost if there is no training camp.

3, 082,300: Sadly, the amount of votes Paul Konerko is behind Boston's Adrian Gonzalez in All-Star voting! You could vote all day on a loop and Paulie won't make up that ground.
