Holmes: Briggs Out For Giants Game

By Laurence Holmes-

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (WSCR) - Lance Briggs missed practice on Thursday with a knee bruise. He will not practice on Friday and will not play in the Bears' second pre-eason game vs. the Giants on Monday.

"Hopefully before long, we can get him out there. We'll just let him rest that knee a bit," Lovie Smith said.

Briggs watched practice from the sidelines wearing a compression sleeve on his leg. He was flanked by Brian Urlacher who missed practiced with soreness and Anthony Adams who is still nursing a calf strain.

The Bears will routinely hold veteran players out of practices and preseason games for precautionary reasons. As of now, the knee bruise doesn't appear to be serious.

Other notes from practice:

-After stretching, the Bears primarily practiced full-team. The team concentrated on situational football: short yardage, third down, red zone, etc. The practice itself was significantly shorter, but a bit more intense.

-Dane Sanzenbacher continues to get reps with the first team in the slot. Earl Bennett got some first team reps with Devin Hester sitting out.

-Receiver Kris Adams garnered some "oohs" and "ahhs" after scoring on a beautfiul bomb from Caleb Hanie. Adams beat Joshua Moore on an out-and-up move.

-This was the Bears' last night practice of training camp. On Friday, the team will start moving toward the regular routine of a game week. The practice time will be moved up to 1:30 p.m. to better simulate a regular prep week for a Monday night game. This will be the last practice open to the public. Saturday, the team will have a closed practice before leaving Bourbonnais.

-Briggs may have a knee bruise, but there's nothing wrong with his mouth. When Roy Williams juggled a catchable ball over the middle, Briggs yelled out: "Don't be scared!" from the sideline.
