Hollandsworth: Trading Zambrano Has Become 'Workable'
CHICAGO (WSCR) With each of the past few seasons, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano has heard his name be mentioned as one that the Cubs might think about trading.
But with each season, the prospects of trading Zambrano remained difficult, partly due to his large contract, outbursts and meltdowns. But since returning from anger management, Zambrano has stabilized his on-the-mound performance, making him a much more trade-friendly player, if the Cubs choose to go down that road.
"Well it certainly has become workable," former Cub and current analyst Todd Hollandsworth said on the Danny Mac Show.
"If you look at this, you know, the whole body of work, there were definitely questions that were surrounding that. I think we all walked into this year wondering how Big Z was going to deal with some adversity when he had some, becuase he didn't have any when he came back last year. He dominated, he dealt, everything went well.

"[This season] everything got off to a great start, he had a great spring training. I think we were waiting for that, you know, that first game or that first couple games where, you know, he had a 4-0 lead or a 4-2 lead and he, you know, gives it up a little it."
The mental breakdowns that doomed Zambrano for much of the past few seasons seem to be completely removed, and manager Mike Quade seems to have helped that happen.
"You have to absolutely give credit to 'Q,' you know, for how well Carlos has responded and how well he's dealt with the things that happen when you're out there on the mound and the guys behind you aren't always making the plays that you hoped that they would make," Hollandsworth said.
