Hollandsworth: Quade Gets 'Solid C' Grade
CHICAGO (WSCR) Despite being given a vote of confidence by team chairman Tom Ricketts, Chicago Cubs manager Mike Quade can't be pleased with the way he and his team have performed this season.
"I suppose if I'm grading him out, he kind of comes in there with a real solid 'C,'" former Cub and current analyst Todd Hollandsworth said on the Danny Mac Show. "I mean, he's done an OK job. I think that there's been times, you know, his players have let him down, and that's a reflection on the manager."
The Cubs got off to a horrible start defensively and haven't done much to right the ship. Chicago's 57 errors are tied for the most in baseball with the Houston Astros.
"I know going into last week they had, I think, over nine games with three plus errors in ball games," Hollandsworth said. "I mean, it's just things that cannot happen, things that are addressed in spring training that weren't addressed in spring training."

Base-running has also been an issue for the Cubs, not only in terms of taking an extra base or making the right read, but in terms of stealing bases: The Cubs' 20 stolen bases are the second fewest in baseball.
"Again, how do you grade him out? It's hard to when you have so many guys go down," Hollandsworth said. "You know, guys that he would refer to as 'my starters, my guys, this is my lineup, this is my team.' He hasn't had that and that's not his fault."
After starting the season hovering around .500, the Cubs have taken a dramatic turn for the worse, falling 10 games back in the NL Central with the second-worst record in baseball.
"We're talking about a team that's really really far back in the standings," Hollandsworth said. "You know, they're just trying to create a little buzz and they're just now starting to play better at home."
