Holiday Shop Decorates Sailor's Home For Christmas
PLAINFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- A Plainfield family thought there would be no Christmas decorations on the house this year with dad serving overseas, but a suburban Christmas store heard about his deployment and stepped in.
A crew from Christmas Decor, in New Lenox, showed up this morning at Tara Janachowski's home, and put up ladders and got to work.
"I was surprised. There's a lot of families that could use this. It's a very nice thing. I'm grateful. It's just a very selfless thing. It's nice," she said.
Volunteers Provide Christmas Decorations For Sailor's Home
Rob Dupre, with Christmas Decor, said they call it the "Decorated Family program."
"We find a service member who's going to be overseas for the holidays. Hopefully it brings more joy to her than it does to us, but we're glad to be a part of it," he said.
John Janachowski is serving in Afghanistan. His wife said it's his first overseas deployment.
The Janachowskis have six daughters, in their early teens to early 20s. Tara said they're excited.
She said her husband will be able to come home after Christmas for about two weeks, and then will go back to Afghanistan, where he's serving in the Navy, until the spring.
