Hoge's Notes: Bushrod Returns, Still Questionable To Play Friday

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (CBS) -- Bears left tackle Jermon Bushrod returned to practice Monday on a limited basis, exactly one week after suffering a calf injury in the second padded practice of training camp.
Bushrod only participated in individual drills Monday, as the team continues to be cautious with the most important piece of their revamped offensive line.
The left tackle said he plans to play in Friday's preseason game, but the team appears to have a different idea about that.
"I don't think it's out of the realm that he would play on Friday night but he would have to be 100 percent for us to even think about playing him," Bears head coach Marc Trestman said. "There is no need to push this. We're going to be very patient."
Bushrod had his right calf heavily wrapped with ice after practice and team doctors will continue to evaluate him throughout the week. Trestman indicated a decision on the first preseason game against the Panthers probably wouldn't come until Friday morning.

- Stephen Paea's day was cut short as the team pulled him for precautionary reasons in what they are calling a tight hip. Trestman said he was pulled partly because of the wet field and he expects the nose tackle to return Tuesday.
- Julius Peppers (hamstring), Earl Bennett (concussion), Kelvin Hayden (hamstring) and D.J. Williams (calf) all missed practice. Team officials said Bennett is still in the process of being evaluated. He was shaken up during both Friday's and Saturday's practice.
- Monday's practice was originally scheduled for 3:15 p.m. but was moved up to 11:15 a.m. because of rain in the area. Even with the early start time, it drizzled for most of the second half of practice.
