Hobart, Ind. Fire Official Dies
(CBS) – A battalion chief in the Hobart, Ind. fire department has died, less than three weeks after he crashed a minivan into his home.
The Hobart Fire Department says it was just before midnight Saturday when 48-year-old Battalion Chief John Wall died at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago.
In late November, Wall was arrested and accused of pointing a gun at his wife and then firing it off in another direction.
Wall was on a leave of absence from that when he rammed his minivan into his home on Dec. 10.
He was burned on his hands and face.
"We were shocked that this whole incident even took place," Hobart Fire Lt. Brian Kerr said. "He's going to be sorely missed, and I give out my prayers to his family and his kids."
Kerr says Wall's death was a shock to the fire department. But he says reports from the hospital were that Wall's condition was gradually deteriorating.
