CHICAGO (CBS/WBBM) - The brother of an Illinois state senator was in surgery Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a hit-and-run driver outside a polling place on the Southwest Side early Tuesday morning.
Martin Munoz was hit by a car on his way to a polling place at 40th Street and Archer Avenue. Chicago Board of Elections spokesman Jim Allen says the victim flew into the air and landed on the car before the driver sped off.
Witnesses noted the license plate of the vehicle, which was located a short distance away, police said. As of about 1:30 p.m. there had been no charges filed against the driver.
The victim was in surgery Tuesday afternoon at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to hospital spokeswoman Barbara Atwood.
"It looks like he's going to be OK," Atwood said.
His brother, State Sen. Antonio Munoz, was at the hospital earlier, Atwood said. Other family members were there and the senator was expected to return later, she said.
