Hit-And-Run Driver Kills 2 At 95th And Cottage Grove

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two pedestrians died overnight, after they were hit by a car at the busy junction of 95th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue on the city's South Side.
The man and woman were crossing 95th Street just east of Cottage Grove around 2:50 a.m. Thursday, when they were struck by a Nissan heading west, police said.

The driver did not stop.
The man, described as being in his 50s or 60s, and the woman, described as being in her 40s or 50s, were both dead at the scene, police said.
Witnesses saw the hit-and-run driver and gave a description to police, who caught up with the motorist a couple of blocks away from the scene 94th Street and Champlain Avenue.
The alleged driver, an 18-year-old man, was found hiding in a nearby alley, police said.
He was taken into custody, and was being treated at an area hospital as of later Thursday morning.
The accident is under investigation by the Police Major Accidents Investigation Unit.
