Highs In The 30s For Most Of Coming Week
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Contrary to the old saying, March seems to be going out like a lion this year.
On Friday and for most of the coming week, temperatures will be below average, snow may fall on some days, and conditions will be more evocative of February than what is supposed to be the beginning of spring.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports the temperatures were in the 20s across the area before dawn Friday – 23 in Waukegan, 24 at O'Hare International Airport, 28 at Midway International Airport, and 28 at Joliet and Kankakee. The warm spot was Gary, Ind., where it was still below freezing at 30 degrees.
While precipitation was in the air, no snow was falling in the early morning hours. The precipitation was limited to virga – rain or snow that evaporates before it reaches the ground.
But a trough of low pressure just to the south of the Chicago area will likely bring light snow off and on during the day, and flurries are also expected for Saturday morning.
In the coming days, your winter coat and your radiator will be necessities. Temperatures will be stuck in the 30s through the middle of next week.
Glaros says the high for Friday is 34, and the high for Saturday is just one degree above freezing at 33. The high for Sunday is 36, Monday 37, and Tuesday is 35.
The next time the temperature is expected to crack the 40-degree mark is Wednesday of next week, when the high is expected at 43 degrees.
